Winter on the Vineyard
So the winter doldrums have set in for many here in Edgartown, and across the Island. But it doesn’t have to be so dull! I for one love the winters here. They usually aren’t as cold as the rest of Massachusetts, and we tend to get far less snow (always a good thing).
But after last week’s big storm, which dumped 12 inches on us, many families find their favorite sledding spot. Either the Overlook in Tisbury, or Sweetened Water Farm in Edgartown, everyone has a favorite place to get their adrenaline rush on. Many also like to cross country ski on many of the conservation trails all over the island, or snow shoe. Both are great options to enjoy the snow and the beauty of our island.
Other things to do here in winter time… attend local sporting events. The high school is always offering up great boys and girls basketball games, or boys and girls hockey games. Join a knitting or book club, local libraries also have lots of different things to do in the winter. My favorite thing is to cook lots of soups. I am always scouring websites looking for new and interesting soup recipes. When my family isn’t enjoying soup, we love to get take out pizza or sandwiches from Wolf Den Pizza located in Vineyard Haven, and now conveniently in Edgartown at the Triangle. They have great pizza! I also can’t wait to try the new restaurant at the airport, Tin Hangar. Every local I have spoken to raves about it, and it is reasonably priced.
Whatever you enjoy, the winter here on Martha’s Vineyard has much to offer. It’s a slower pace, a lot less traffic, and you get to catch up with friends at the Stop and Shop or at the post office. It is a much needed respite from the hectic pace of the summer, and before you know it spring is right around the corner.
